FAQs - The Importance Of Safety Eyewear

By providing our clients with Digital Freeform lenses, we can assure our clients that they are receiving the best quality lenses available.  Digital Freeform lenses allow us to customize your employee’s lenses to maximize their vision and to ensure they are safe.  Especially when dealing with the sealed eyewear, Digital Freeform lenses greatly decrease any adaptation issues the wearer may experience, increase the prescription parameters available in these types of frames and maximize the visual corridor thru which the wearer can see (decreasing peripheral distortions).

At F.O. Safety Eyewear, we pride ourselves on providing our clients the best available product for the best available prices we can.  To ensure we are able to do this, we have built our own state of the art digital manufacturing lab.  This lab enables us to produce freeform digital lenses at prices that our competitors sell regular lenses for.  We spared no expense in building this lab as we know it is the future of our industry.  To build this lab required a 7 figure investment and an ability to put thru 150,000 lenses per year.  Thru our parent company, Factory Optical Holdings, we are one of the very few optical retailers in Canada that can do such a thing.  This reality allows us to provide our clients superior product at very reasonable prices.

First off, in Canada, it is illegal for anyone but a Licensed Optician (or Optometrist) to fit and/or dispense prescription eyewear.  This is because of the care, knowledge and experience required to properly fit prescription eyewear.  Especially as prescriptions increase, any little error can greatly impact the visual acuity of the wearer, their ability to adapt to the eyewear and the effectiveness of the eyewear.  We at F.O. Safety Eyewear have many years of experience in dealing with prescription safety eyewear and have seen what can happen when clients use unskilled dispensers.  We do not ever wish to cause our clients or their employees the types of headaches, costs and unsafe conditions that these seemingly simple errors can cause so we equip ourselves with Licensed Opticians and it is these staff that perform all of our fittings and dispensing.

There are many advantages that come with F.O. Safety Eyewear using our own staff and retail locations. One of the most important is the quality control of the product and the service that this allows us to guarantee. We have personally trained each of our staff and they each have a vested interest in the success of the safety eyewear program. This ensures that they truly understand the product, are fully comfortable with all aspects of the program and do all they can to ensure your employees receive exactly what they need/want while maximizing their vison and therefore their safety.

Safety frames are not one size fits all at all. We at F.O. Safety Eyewear have spent much time and effort researching what types of frames are required to fit as broad a range of face shapes, prescriptions and needs as possible. As a result we came up with our suite of 45 frames. These 45 frames were selected with much care and attention to our client’s needs and wants. We worked very hard to offer as expansive of a selection as possible to ensure we can provide a good fit to as many of your employees as possible without getting so broad a selection that it becomes redundant and/or that the employees become overwhelmed in selecting. The suite of frames we offer have also provided us the ability to greatly simplify our pricing structure so that our clients are not filtering thru lists and lists of products trying to determine what they may need and/or are willing to pay for.

On top of this, we train each and every one of our staff on the importance of a really good fit when it comes to safety glasses. If the frame selection process is not consultative, the employee may choose something way too big, way too small or something that results in his prescription not working effectively. Each of these problems can result in much bigger problems for the employee and can even potentially render their safety eyewear unsafe. For example, the employee chooses a frame that does not offer sufficient coverage or a good seal (when utilizing the sealed eyewear), and they can be exposed to a much greater likelihood of getting debris or particles in the eye. The likes of which is an ever increasing cause of workplace injuries in Canada.

The last step to a successful fitting process is the final dispensing of the product. We strongly encourage our clients to ensure that their employees receive their finished product direct from the Optician whenever possible. This allows us to ensure that the eyewear is doing the job it is supposed to and helps all parties involved more quickly and effectively resolve any issues that could arise. This is especially true with sealed eyewear, when due to the curve there can be an adaptation period. If the employees simply receive the product in the mail or from their supervisor, there is no opportunity to ensure that the employee is comfortable with the final product. We have been fitting sealed eyewear for a number of years now and we have seen incredibly significant increases in adaptability and employee satisfaction when the eyewear was fit and dispensed by a Licensed Optician.

After service care is not technically required by any specific law. However, we at F.O. Safety Eyewear have seen over the years, just how important it is to the success of any prescription safety eyewear program. It is thru this after service care that we can help identify and resolve any issues or concerns your employees may be experiencing. We want to ensure our clients are happy with our product and service at all intervals of the process so that our clients remain our clients. It is relatively easy to sell a company a product once, but it is much harder to maintain their loyalty if you do not ever see them except when there is money to be made. The level of service we provide is second to none and comes with no additional fees. We work with you and your employees to make sure that we have done everything we can to maximize their vision and their safety.
